Design
The Lamy cp1 ballpoint pen. You can immediately tell as you pick up this pen that it’s a level up on the competition and it’s a level up on the Safari or AL-star.
The matte coating / finish is really nice and smooth but not slippery. The minimal Bauhaus design aesthetic really works for it with the clip being a nice aluminium and I’m very pleased with how it looks overall.
It’s got a satisfying click that’s a little interesting. It’s not on the noisy side but not silent.
Writing
I find this pen easy to write with and more smooth to write with than the Safari and AL-star.
Refill Performance
The Lamy cp1 is quite thin so larger hands might want to look at the Lamy 2000 ballpoint. The refill is a Lamy M16 and you know what you’re getting.

Pro’s
- Good for smaller hands
- Seems to write smoother than other Lamy options I’ve tried (Safari, AL-star)
Con’s
- Might be too thin for some
- Very minimal with its design – If you want something fun, this isn’t for you.
Notes
The M17 ballpoint refill is not available everywhere which will give Lamy ballpoint users another option.
